Dear Runner or Walker:
If your name appears on our
website list, we have received your application and entry fee for one of the Charleston
Distance Run
Events. To receive your packet and timing chip, you must see the officials who
will be located in
the lobby of the Charleston Civic Center. The hours
for packet pick up are from 4pm to 9pm on Friday,
August 29, and 6:00am
to 7:15am on race day. No packets will be distributed after 7:15am.
Any runner (not a walker) wishing to switch to the other race, additional cost may apply, must do so no later than
Friday, August 22. After this date, you must pay a fee based on the current fee schedule.
Be sure to get your timing chip after you get your packet (instructions for the chip are in the packet).
Planned activities for you, your family or guests are as follows:
FRIDAY, AUGUST 29
5pm - 8pm - Verizon Pasta Party, Civic Center.
A pasta dinner complete with beverages, dessert, and musical
entertainment. Your ticket will be enclosed in your packet.
Guests will pay $5 at the door. Children, under 10,
are free. No
one will be admitted without a ticket.
7pm - 8pm - SportMart Runners Clinic, Civic Center. Free to all. Door prizes will be awarded and shoe company representatives will be displaying their newest footwear. The featured speaker will be Julie Isphording.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 30
6:00am to 7:15am - Final packet and timing chip pick up at the Civic Center.
7:30am
- 15 MILE RACE BEGINS. Starting line is
at the corner of Virginia Street, East and Civic Center Drive.
Parking is
available at the Civic Center Parking Garage. All of the events will finish at Laidley Field, and buses will be available to transport
runners
and walkers back to the
Civic Center free of charge.
7:40am - 5K RACE BEGINS. All runners are to line up behind the 15 Mile
runners, at the corner of Virginia Street, East
and Civic Center Drive.
7:45am - 5K & 10K WALK BEGINS. All walkers are to line up behind the 5K runners, at the corner of Virginia Street,
East and Civic Center Drive.
9am - 5K Awards Presentation (top three per age division), under the North Stands (interstate side) at Laidley Field.
WALK AWARDS - 10K walkers will receive their Cemetery Hill Badge at the cemetery and all walkers will receive their Finish Pin at the finish line.
11am - Post Race Cool Down, Civic Center Lobby. Plenty of liquids and fruits. Free to runners, walkers and guests.
Noon - WOWK 13 NEWS Awards Banquet, Civic Center. Free to runners & walkers (ticket in packet); guests will pay
$8 at the door. Delicious food with beverages.
12:30pm - Awards Presentation for the 15 Mile Race, Civic Center. 5K runners & walkers also invited.
